We have invited the visitors to draw on a spinning glass panel. The idea came after a friend gave us one of these special markers to draw on her shop’s window which was incredibly satisfying!
As we are so used to drawing on much rougher surfaces such as paper or blackboard there was something about the smoothness of the glass that creates a completely new sensation, which made us continue drawing.
We were thinking how we can explore this unique sensation even further, how can we direct the visitors to draw nicely? make the canvas turn hence the spinning circular glass panel where a simple straight line becomes a perfect flower.
Wire glass panels have their 'natural' functional beauty. The wire supports the glass, prevents it from shattering in cases of fire and at the same time adds a pattern and a texture. We were surprised to see that although the usage of wire glass is so very common, there are only few patterns that are in use all over the world.
We wanted to play with the grid in a way that would create an optical illusion and maybe even confusion, is it a flat surface? Is it curvy? These illusions will lure the visitors to approach the glass, touching to verify the nature of the surface.
